Two Acquittals after a 2 days' trial

We are pleased to share that following a two-day trial, the Magistrate acquitted both defendants represented by Chaudhry Solicitors.
For the first defendant, represented by our Principal Solicitor CHAUDHRY M. Kamran, the Court declined to admit the cautioned statement, accepting that it had been taken without a Bengali interpreter present, and further found the police evidence to be unreliable.
For the second defendant, represented by Monisha Kotwani — in what was her first trial as an advocate — the Court held that, even on the prosecution's own evidence, the essential elements of the charge had not been made out. A remarkable result and an outstanding debut. Congratulations, Monisha.
Two defendants, two different routes to the same result — a reminder that the prosecution bears the burden of proving its case to the criminal standard, and that procedural safeguards exist to protect the rights of every accused person, whatever language they speak.
